  3. me too!

my nitron GSR is looking pretty rough from holster wear....I'm thinking about dewdrop blasting it down to the bare stainless--and I don't care for stainless guns!!!

  4. heh...guess there's a demand for information

First I went to Sig's website and checked effectually, they do a refinish service that takes a quoted four-6 weeks. I don't recall the pricing, but it'south a lot. The upside, though, is that the gun will have a fresh Nitron cease practical past Sig that carries the corresponding Sig warranty.

Side by side I checked around local places and at a gun bear witness here in San Diego. No 1 (except Sig) is really sure what the "Nitron" finish is, so no one is really sure how to fix it. Nonetheless, a service called hard chrome coating was offered that sounded intriguing. It costs 200-250 bucks depending on the store, and it's actually durable, like to a ceramic coating. It comes in lots of colors so you tin can customize the finish. That might be a good option.

I hold with y'all on the stainless look, I'm not a fan! If a gun could exist done with an all-over matte finish over the stainless instead of that hard shiny polished look it would be much better, but I'm notwithstanding partial to night colors.

Hope this helps, similar I said all I did was a chip of research.

  5. Thank you! Nigh probable if yous have plenty of a question to ask, there are others in the same boat.

Btw, the only reason a lot that stainless guns are polished on the flats is that some people like the contrast against the matte. The overall gun could be bead or sand blasted and information technology would all be flat. That would really be easier and perhaps cheaper than having some of it polished.

  6. funny that you should mention that Dave......

Ane of my FALs is a DSA Stainless. I used the Brownell'due south Ultra Fine aluminum oxide at 45 psi to give information technology a matte greyness finish. This isn't a great motion picture, but the receiver and butt used to be brushed stainless. Up shut, it looks exactly similar the rounds on my stainless ParaOrd S13....information technology got the aforementioned treatment earlier I sold it to fund another v" Govt. Beginning to finish took less than an hour, but cleaning all the grit out of the nooks/crannies took a bit longer.

I wouldn't get with Nitron once again....it hasn't held upward well, so I know that refinishing it with the same stuff still won't hold upwards. Hard chrome or the matte gray is probably the way I'll get

agreed, I'chiliad not impressed with Sig's "durable" Nitron finish either. Gun is 3 months old and has never been placed anywhere only in a hand, on the table at the range or in its padded box and the butt bushing end is worn thru to the metal on some edges and the ding on the frame must have shown up with very little endeavor. Perhaps a difficult chrome is in the future...

I agree with you lot on the stainless expect, I'thousand not a fan! If a gun could be done with an all-over matte stop over the stainless instead of that hard shiny polished expect information technology would exist much improve, but I'one thousand still partial to dark colors.

SIG uses Ion Bond to coat all of their pistols. The coating is DLC - Black. I sent some small parts that I mitt fit to my GSR to be coated and they came back perfect.

Practice a search for "Ion Bond".
